My seven year old is super curious about the world around him. He is always asking questions, wanting to know how things work, why they do what they do, etc. When we were asked to try out the My First Lab WOW Scope in exchange for a blog review, I knew he would be thrilled!
The microscope comes well packaged in thick styrofoam. This also makes great storage for when you aren’t using the device. It will keep the dust off the lenses so you aren’t having to clean it all the time. The prepared specimen are in their own carrying case.
As soon as we pulled the WOW scope from it’s box, my son was ready to start looking at things magnified! We did have to insert 2 AA batteries (not included) into the bottom of the microscope for it to work.
We began with the included specimens. My son quickly got the hang of turning the knobs on the sides to focus on the sample he was looking at. He really liked looking at the feather and insect leg, and he was totally amazed at all the detail you could see. It had no idea that an insect leg looked so hairy!
Once we had looked at everything included, my son was trying to find things around the house we could view. He rushed outside and grabbed a couple leaves. We also wanted to view rocks from his collections with the WOW scope. And I will admit, I had just as much fun as he did getting to see things with such magnification.
Also included with the My First Lab WOW Scope are two sets of eyepieces, 10x and 25x. You can get a total of 50x magnification, which offers SUPER close view of things! It’s very easy to change out the eyepieces. Just pull out one set and pop in the new to change things up.
There are two different light settings on this microscope. The top light is great for looking at solid objects like rocks and leaves. The bottom light makes it easier to view samples on slides.
I think the My First Lab WOW Scope is one of the best first science tools you can invest in for your kiddos. They will be thrilled to get such a zoomed look on ordinary things around the house! I know my 7 year old will be making great use of this tool in our home, and my 4 year old will soon become interested in it as well.
Also, the parent company for My First Lab, C & A Scientific, recently donated a generous $300,000 in equipment to local schools, helping area students with more hands-on learning. You can learn more about the donation in this video.
