Are you currently working at home – or want to be – and aren’t sure how to increase your productivity and earn more money with the stress of the season swirling around your home?
It can be hard for anyone – whether or not they have kids – to get focused and make sure they’re working hard to maximize their earnings around the holidays. After all, the weather gets cozy, there are a million activities to do, and there are tons of Christmas movies you can’t wait to watch on TV every day.
But now is the time to develop a laser focus so that you don’t end up worried about money when Christmas Day rolls around. You want to have everything neatly wrapped under the tree, with no looming credit card debt hanging over your head.
As the holidays approach, you’ll have to know how to manage your life at home while balancing family life and work life. This can be tricky – especially if you do have kids roaming around while on school break, making noise and clamoring for your attention.
Here are a few tips to help you succeed, so you can stay productive and still bring in an income during this busy time of the year.
- Prioritize! There will be times you must get away from the computer to spend time with friends and family. However, you must also prioritize your work tasks in order to still make money during the holidays. Use a planner to record all of your deadlines and goals for working at home, and make sure you schedule your days to meet your goals while still having time for your loved ones.
- Work in blocks of time. You may find that you accomplish much more when giving yourself set chunks to time to work. Become laser focused during these work blocks, and you’ll find yourself getting tons done, versus working all day and continuously allowing for interruptions.
- Work around the family’s sleep schedule. You can work in the morning or after the kids go to sleep. Young kids can take a nap during the day, while older kids rest and read books in their bedrooms. Use this afternoon quiet time to carve out another block to work to complete.
- Set monetary goals to reach. Having a specific goal to work toward can help increase your productivity. You are less likely to give into the distractions of Facebook or the Christmas show on the TV. Once you reach that goal, reward yourself with the rest of the day off!
Working from home over the holidays may be something that you just want to do seasonally. That’s perfectly fine. But chances are, once you get a taste of the freedom you have to be your own boss and earn what you’re worth, you’ll want to keep it up for the long haul.
