My family and I have been doing a lot of reminiscing lately, looking through photo albums and watching old home movies. With my Granny’s passing in October, it’s been a time of reflection and remembrance for all of us. When looking through photos I had saved on CDs and on my computer, I came across this one from 10 years ago.
This was taken when I was still attending my first college, living with an ex-boyfriend and thinking how much I knew about the real world. Boy, was I wrong!
I have changed a great deal since that photograph was taken. There’s the obvious, I am married [to a different man], and I am a mom to an amazing two year old. I am not longer in college, my hair looks different, and I weigh more now than I did in that picture [but that’ a work in progress!].
Beyond the most noticeable changes, there are others that have affected the way that the past 10 years of my life has played out. I was so young and naive back then, not realizing what really mattered and instead focusing on childish junk that really didn’t. Life has definitely taught me to focus more on the big picture and let the little things go.
Back then, I couldn’t wait to be finished with college so I could really start my life. I felt like I was standing still. Now, I take more time to enjoy every day and actually wish life would slow down. My life doesn’t revolve around me like it did then, but now it’s all about the hyper little boy that I live with. I wasn’t as patient, though my son has taught me to be a little more relaxed and that taking more time to do something doesn’t hurt anyone.
So yes, in many ways I am different than I was when that photo was taken 10 years ago…and I think most of the changes were for the better.
