It’s no secret that a lot of moms earn money online with a blog. But, let’s not forget that building a blog takes time. You have to research your topic, create quality content, and drive traffic to those posts. For 95% of bloggers, earning an income from a blog isn’t something that happens overnight.
It may be six months or more before you are seeing the income you want from your blog, with ads, affiliates, or sponsored posts. Even if you have a blog post that goes viral in the beginning, you may only earn a few hundred dollars before it settles down.
Luckily, there are other ways you can work online to earn money while you are growing your blog. These more immediate income streams will hold you over until you are earning enough from your blog to get rid of them. Plus, they will give you some of the startup cash you will want for blogging tools and courses – trust me, these WILL help shorten your blogging curve!
4 Ways to Make Money Online While you Grow your Blog
1. Freelance writing
This is actually how I earned my first money online. Before I blogged as a business, I would create content for other bloggers or website owners. Back then, I would earn a measly $5 per 400 word article, but I didn’t care. I was making money online!
Today, the entry for freelance writers is much better. Now that the internet has evolved some and it’s becoming more mainstream to work online creating content for others, you can begin offering your writing services for at least $15 per page. If you are a fast typist, this could make $45/hour or more for you.
2. Selling used items
While you are growing your blog, you can declutter your home and earn some side cash by getting rid of things your family no longer needs. Go through all the closets in your home, creating a “for sale” pile for outgrown clothing, shoes, and other items. Take good photos and list these items for sell on Ebay or Craigslist, or in your local Facebook buy/sell/trade groups.
3. Become a virtual assistant
As you are learning the ropes of blogging, becoming a VA for other bloggers can be beneficial in a number of ways. For one, you can get paid within the first week of working for your clients. Secondly, you’ll learn more about the blogging world by helping your clients get those busy tasks done.
VAs typically do things like email management, social media management, blog post editing or creation, or image editing. You may also be asked to research keywords or topics for future blog posts. All of this knowledge will help you as you grow your own blog – plus you are getting paid for it!
4. Take surveys
This tried and true online income method isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Surveys, focus groups, and panels have been around for years as a great way to make side cash online. While you are growing your blog, it wouldn’t hurt you to make a little money giving your opinion, am I right?!
Completing surveys isn’t the most fun way to earn money, but it’s easy and you can begin earning as soon as you set up your profiles. The more panels you join, the better your chances of earning decent money with this income stream. I outline the best survey websites here >> How to Earn $500/Month in your Spare Time
These four methods should help you earn some cash while you are working hard to grow your own blog. Making money online doesn’t have to take months to do, but you do need to be open to other income streams while you are starting your blog!
