As parents, our goal for the summer is to keep our children safe from the heat. Because it can get upwards of 100 degrees in some parts of the country, it’s important to plan activities that allow them to stay cool.
Read on for six fun ways you can keep your kids cool this summer!
1. Have Water Gun Wars
Summer is the perfect time to play with water toys. For some kids, nothing is more fun than squirted each other with water guns! Provide a selection of water guns for the kids – they may even enjoy water balloons, buckets, and other fun things to get soaked with!
2. Go Swimming
One of summer’s best pastimes! Even if you don’t have a large pool in your backyard, invest in something small that your kids can use to keep cool. A small wading pool can be fun for young kids as well as older ones. A sprinkler set up near the pool can add another element of fun to the swimming.
3. Make Homemade Popsicles
To keep your kids cool this season, break out the popsicle recipes you are sure to find on Pinterest. If the children are old enough, let them make their own, choosing flavors and all. Grab a set of popsicle molds so they don’t have to settle for the sugar-filled treats from the store.
4. Plan Indoor Activities
Some days, it’s just too hot to play outside, especially around lunch time and early afternoon. Plan fun indoor activities for your kids, such as reading, video games, movies, or a trip to the mall or library. The goal is to change up the daily routines so they aren’t bored for their summer vacation from school.
5. Host an Ice cream Social
This is a great way for the whole neighborhood to keep cool this summer! Think of this as a potluck – though the focus is on ice cream. Everyone can bring ice cream flavors, toppings, bowls, cones, and spoons for this gathering. In the end, everyone will be able to cool down and have a fun time together.
6. Visit Water Parks
A trip to a local water park can cool down your kids while providing them with a place to burn off energy! Even if it’s just a splash pad at a local park, it’s fun to jump around with friends while the cold water is raining down on you.
