I am always on the lookout for tools that make my life easier, especially when it comes to blogging. I have heard great things about Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and I was happy to receive the software to use and review.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Home Edition
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Home Edition 12 is a voice dictation software. Basically, it takes what you say into a microphone and converts it to text. When you have to write several blog posts each week, along with emails and other typed work, your fingers can get tired from all these tasks. I don’t have to worry about that now.
I must admit – I put off trying this software for so long because I was afraid it wouldn’t really save me time. I have a fairly strong Southern accent, so I was sure it would be nothing but problems. I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for several days now, and I am actually using it to create this review. I have to say, it does a great job of understanding me!
Setting up the software is easy – I have a user profile that is personalized toward my way of speaking and writing. It took about 30 minutes to set up my profile within Dragon, but it amazes me how well this software works. I had to read a few snippets of text to create the profile, and then went through a user tutorial which discussed editing and other commands. Once that was done, I was able test with a quick email James right away.
The software also comes with a headset that has worked perfectly with my computer. It does take some getting used to with speaking blog posts and emails, but I know once I’ve used this for a few weeks, it will save time as well as make my life easier. The headset is comfortable to wear and I actually forget it’s on sometimes.
Along with email and documents, Dragon NaturallySpeaking also works with social media. I can update my status on Facebook or Twitter without typing a single word. It also allows me to search the Internet verbally. This is great for research breaks or when I want to read other blogs without having to type in a URL.
When I’m away from my computer, Dragon can be used on my iPhone with this Home version. This allows me to multitask or just sit on the couch and talk, making the software even more convenient for bloggers/busy moms. I haven’t tried this approach yet, but I think it will come in handy. You know all that time you spend in school pick up lines or in general traffic? Now you can be productive while you sit!
Not only will Dragon make my life easier, but it will also allow me to add more personality into my blog posts. I can easily pretend I am chatting with a friend as I speak into the headset. I think this will be a very good benefit to my blog.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the above software to test in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. All opinions are 100% mine!
