We are a screen time family around here. While my husband and I moderate the amount of time the boys get to watch TV or play on our devices, we do give them the freedom to explore technology and learn from it.
This post is brought to you by Speakaboos! All opinions are mine.
With Sawyer being 5 years old, it’s hard not to let him have some screen time. He likes watching cartoons, playing on his iPad, and is even venturing into video games. Dawson, at 2 1/2, isn’t quite as into tech as his brother, but he is starting to show interest.
One way we make sure that screen time is beneficial to them is by mixing the fun with education. I’d rather them #ChooseReading apps over those that are just mind numbing entertainment. That’s why we are loving Speakaboos!
Speakaboos is a fun app for preschool-aged children that makes screen time a time for reading. It’s encouraging our 5 year old to read, and getting our 2 year old more interested in books.
Why Speakaboos is a Great Learning App for Kids
1. There are over 200 stories available!
Not only is there a nice library built into the Speakaboos app, it is categorized by topics your kids will enjoy. These categories include vehicles, animals, princesses, robots, and more. Having lots of material for them to read and enjoy means they won’t become bored with the app, plus they will be more motivated to read.
2. It’s a fun alternative to physical books!
We still read two books to our two boys every night. However, when we are cooking or in the car, reading isn’t the most convenient activity to keep them busy. That’s where Speakaboos comes in. They can be entertained while also learning how to read.
3. This reading app is backed by experts!
The Chief Learning Officer for Speakaboos is Dr. Alice Wilder, a renowned educational media expert. After being involved in the development of children’s shows like Blue’s Clues and Super WHY! (one of Sawyer’s all time favorites), Dr. Wilder is able to bring lots of expertise to this fun, interactive, and education app for kids.
4. Children will love sending their favorite characters come to life!
Not only does Speakaboos have engaging and original stories, my boys were excited to see some of their favorite characters the moment we downloaded the app. Sawyer has always loved Thomas and Friends. Dawson immediately requested Elmo.
Plus, they have some classic favorites that we have in prints, like “Where the Wild Things Are” and “Harold and the Purple Crayon”. I enjoyed these books as a child and love getting to pass my childhood on to my boys.
5. This app is perfect for multiple reading levels!
Speakaboos features different options when it comes to how your child interacts with the app. For Sawyer, he likes the Read and Play mode, and he’s even starting to use the Read it Myself mode. Dawson is still happy with the Read to Me level. I like that both boys can get so much enjoyment from the same app.
6. Speakaboos can be played offline too!
You don’t have to have a Wifi connection in order for your kids to enjoy playing with Speakaboos. Everything is available offline, so your children can enjoy these stories in the car, on the plane – whenever and wherever.
All in all, Speakaboos has everything I look for in an app that my kids will be playing with. It’s fun, engaging, and they will learn to #ChooseReading over other, less education apps!
