How we threw our 3 year old a pirate birthday party!
This summer, my son went on a pirate cruise while in Florida with my family. Since then, he has LOVED all things pirate. He is so into pirate stuff that he wanted a Pirate Birthday Party! So, we celebrated his third birthday over the weekend with a big pirate theme. Thanks to Pinterest, I was able to pull together lots of fun stuff for the celebration!
Pirate Birthday Party Food
My first thought was, what is typically served at a pirate birthday party?! My search led me to create something like this…
I found the creative idea on food names at Mom Endeavors. Since the birthday party was late in the afternoon, I wanted to offer food that could be considered dinner for my guests. An added benefit was that my son LOVES chicken nuggets. I downloaded the sign templates and used Photoshop to edit them with the proper names before printing them on cardstock paper.
Deciding to forego a cake from the bakery this year, I tried my own hand at making the sweet treats for the party. This not only made me proud, but it saved me lots of money! I spent ~$13 for 4 dozen Pirate Cupcakes – no way could have gotten that many for that low of a price having someone else make them. I baked the cupcakes, and my sister added the frosting. I think the pirate rings added a nice touch!
Pirate Birthday Party Games
My first thought for pirate birthday party entertainment was a treasure hunt. I scoured Pinterest looking for an idea on what I could do and found the idea of using a treasure chest filled with sand and jewels. Amazon had great deals on toy necklaces, pirate coins, and rings that I added to the sand. I purchased a couple of shovels that the kids could use to do their digging.
The kids had a great time filling their loot bags with treasures they could then take home with them. These turned into the party favor bags, which also included a pirate pencil and a few chocolate gold coins.

Pirate Birthday Party Decorations
I really like to keep it simple when I am decorating a party space. For my son’s pirate birthday party, we simply hung streamers and balloons. The food table was covered with a white tablecloth, and the main colors for the party were red, black, and white.
