In order to get healthy, James and I decided to cut out sodas and beverages containing a lot of sugar when buying groceries. We do allow Sawyer a cup of “no sugar added” juice, but that’s usually it besides water and milk. Limiting choices can sometimes get boring though, which is why I was excited to try out SodaStream.
SodaStream is a beverage maker that allows you to turn plain old water into soda or sparkling water. There are over 50 flavors to choose from. For my review, we made the orange soda and root beer.
The drinksmaker is easy to set up. Basically, all you need to do is connect the carbonator to the back of the machine, fill the bottle with water, pump in some CO2, add the flavoring of your choice and that’s it. There is no electricity needed, which makes it easy to use the drinksmaker anywhere.
I’m not a fan of root beer, but my mom and James both state that it tastes like something you’d purchase from the store. I did try the orange soda, and it was yummy. I am excited to try out all of the other flavors now!
SodaStream comes with special bottles that are reusable, so you save the environment by not tossing out 2-3+ plastic bottles each week. Plus, the sodamix bottles make 12 liters of the indicated beverage, which will save you money and storage space from buying sodas each week.
As I mentioned earlier, SodaStream is a healthier alternative to many beverages that you buy in stores. For example, let’s take the SodaStream Lemon Lime beverage. It tastes similar to Sprite, but only has 36 calories and 9g of carbs, compared to Sprite’s 100 calories and 26g of carbs per serving. The MyWater Flavor Essences, which make flavored sparkling water, can spice up the bland taste of water and are even better for you.
