Learning how to be a successful blogger is something everyone wants to achieve. However, you may find yourself struggling to find the time it takes to truly grow your blog. Maybe you are in charge of your daughter’s car pool or you have to run your son to and from his sports games.
This takes you away from your computer, and you sit up all night having to finish what you didn’t get to during the day.
Thankfully, there are ways you can get your blogging work done even while you are on the go!
How to Be a Successful Blogger Away from your Desk
Keep a notebook handy
You never know when inspiration may strike. In fact, many bloggers have stated that some of their best ideas have come at times when they aren’t sitting in front of their computer. A small notebook in your pocket or purse allows you to make note of all the ideas that spring up – no matter where you are!
You can also use this blogging notebook to jot down to-do lists or things you need to buy for a blog post.
Use social media apps on your phone
Technology has brought the world to our finger tips, so you can learn how to be a successful blogger with your smart phone! Download your main social media apps (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram) to use on the road. With these, you can share your blog posts or any social messages you may need to share for a brand campaign.
WordPress has an app that allows you to blog right from your phone. I found it to be difficult, since I enjoy a full-size keyboard when I am creating a blog post. However, it could be ideal for jotting down notes or creating a post outline.
Evernote is another good mobile app for bloggers. This app lets you make notes, save web pages, and more – and it sync with your computer when you get back. That way, everything is the same across your devices. I find this very helpful when staying organized when I’m not at home.
Schedule updates for when you aren’t home
If you are going somewhere without the internet, or where you shouldn’t be on your phone, use helpful blogging tools to schedule your tasks. CoSchedule is great for sharing your own posts. You can set up the shares right within the new post page of your WordPress dashboard. For Pinterest, Tailwind is highly recommended to keep your activity levels up and increase your following and repins.
Utilize the carpool line
There are so many blogging tasks you can get done while waiting for your child after school. I know that I have to sit anywhere from 20-35 minutes waiting for my son. I use this time to get things done! Sometimes, I will work on Facebook share threads. Other times, I may pull out my notebook and jot down ideas. With the chunk of time I have, I like to do the more intensive blogging tasks, and save the smaller things for when I just have a few minutes here and there.
Brainstorm during soccer practice
Most sports games or practices or music lessons last one hour. If you need to stay present for the activity, put that time to good use. Take your notebook with you and do a big brainstorm for post ideas. Outline some of these ideas. If the location has Wi-Fi, you could even bring your laptop to really work at being a successful blogger while away from home!
Voice dictation is your friend
While in the car during errands runs, you can use the voice-to-text app on your smartphone to think out ideas or even a full blog post. Most smartphones have these apps built in, but you can download one if needed (I’m sure there are a few free ones that will do this!). Then, once back home, you can polish it up and hit publish.
Outsource the busy work
There are a ton of those time-consuming blogging tasks that you can outsource to a virtual assistant. Let them take care of those social media updates or comments while you enjoy time away with your family. They can help to keep your blog running while you aren’t able too!
Understanding how to be a successful blogger isn’t difficult, even if you are away from your desk often. Plan and prepare so you can use your time wisely, whether you are in the car or watching your child doing his favorite activity!
