Now that the weather is warming up and school is out, it’s time to think about Mommy’s prep for summer. With all the hustle and bustle of taking kids to swimming lessons and summer camps, family traveling, and planning outdoor fun, it can be easy to forget that we need a little pampering! Especially on the lower half of our body.
My legs are severely neglected in the winter. Yes, I confess, it gets bad! Sometimes, I only have enough time for a 7 minute shower, let alone the time to shave or moisturize my legs. When summer hits, however, I live in shorts and capris — which is when it’s essential to #SummerizeYourLegs.
While talking with my sister last weekend, she mentioned that she had just made some of her favorite lemon sugar scrub. It is a special one she makes just for her legs — I tried it last summer and it make mine feel so silky smooth. I decided that my next trip to Walmart would be all about my legs!
I headed to my local store and picked up all the essentials I needed for nice summer legs. The Schick® Intuition® Pure Nourishment® razor, Hawaiian Tropic® Sheer Touch Ultra Radiance SPF 30, and Skintimate® Mandarin Burst were on the top of my list. You have to have a quality razor and moisturizing shave gel, as well as good sun protection if you want your legs to truly shine this season!
Having the ingredients for the sugar scrub already at home, I couldn’t wait to check out and get to pampering myself. My mom had my kids for the afternoon, so I was ready to spend as much uninterrupted time in the bathroom as I wanted. Yes, that is definitely a dream come true for a mom of two little kiddos!
I began by mixing up the ingredients for the sugar scrub, using this recipe…
DIY Lemon Sugar Scrub
1 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
1/2 cup Coconut Oil (Olive Oil works great too)
3 Tbsp Lemon Juice (Fresh or Real Lemon)
Mix together in a small container and you’re done! The scrub usually lasts me 1-2 uses, depending on how much I lather on.
With my scrub ready, I took it and the items from Walmart to the tub for a nice hot bath. Letting my legs soak for a few minutes, I took the time to relax and unwind. No tiny knocks on the door or “Mommy” shrieks coming from the living room. Paradise!
Then the shaving begins…
Summertime Shaving Tips
The Schick Intuition may very well be the best razor for shaving legs — it always gives me a close and smooth shave. The solid moisturizer around the blades keeps me from getting razor burn.
I lather up my legs with Skinimate shave gel first, loving the Mandarin Burst scent. It makes me think of Hawaii! How I would love to be relaxing there with my beautiful summer legs. Between the shave gel and the razor, I have no hair whatsoever on my legs when done – and no redness or irritation either.
Tip: Even when I don’t have time for a long bath, I can quickly pamper myself with the razor and shaving gel on the side of the tub, without feeling like I’m killing the skin on my legs!
After the shave comes the DIY lemon sugar scrub. I gently rub the scrub along each leg, thoroughly rinsing each one when done. I love the feeling of my skin once I’ve done all of this. The lemony scent of the scrub works well with the citrus from the shave gel. After soaking a little longer (or until the water gets cold), I am done with 2/3 of my prep for summer!
Just before heading to the pool (or just out and about), I give my legs a good rubdown with the Hawaiian Tropic sunblock. Since I am fairly pale, I need a lot of protection to keep from burning. The lotion’s SPF 30 works perfect for me! I can lay out at my parent’s swimming pool without worry I’ll look like a lobster the next day…
That’s really all the prep for summer that I do! My summertime shaving tips not only help me pamper myself with some much needed “Mommy Time,” but they help me have amazing legs ready for the pool, beach, or anywhere!
