When first born, babies require a lot of stuff! I didn’t realize quite how many baby diapers, bottles, wipes, and outfits needed to be carried until we had kids of our own. As your little one grows, however, you will likely begin taking less with you when you head out. Feedings and diaper changes are more spread out, so you don’t have to pack everything but the kitchen sink.
With both boys, I slowly decreased all of the items I took along as they got older. At 9 months old, Dawson has reached the age where we don’t feel we need ALL THE THINGS when we go out. We’ve gone from a standard diaper bag (that weighed a ton!) down to a small, but cute, elephant backpack.
Even though we have decreased the load we take with us, there are still some must haves that I would never leave home without! There are just some items that I always want to have on hand, at home or on the go.
1. Sippy cup
There was a time when bottles and formula were a requirement, which led to carrying that bulky diaper bag. Now, Dawson is able to drink water when necessary so we always keep a cup in his bag.
2. Extra outfit
Thankfully, my boys aren’t too messy or need to be changed ALL THE TIME! Before having Sawyer, I heard on and on about the piling heaps of laundry I’d have once we had kids. Luckily, we usually do not do an outfit change while out, but we have an outfit on hand just in case.
This helps us reduce the number of outfits we have to carry along. My youngest has hit the drooling stage head on, thanks to the 3 teeth he is currently cutting. He always wears a bib during feeding time, but he sometimes keeps it on longer if he’s going to be chewing on a toy or just doing his general “drool thang”!
4. Teething toys
Along with bibs to help combat the drool, toys that are made for chewing are essential. Since Dawson is teething, he needs something to soothe his gums. And because he’s a curious baby, he needs something to preoccupy his hands!
5. Quality diapers
We want the most absorbent diaper any time, but definitely when we are out and about. Sometimes, every one gets caught up in what we are doing, and the baby may wear a diaper a little longer than usual. Plus, that extra car seat sitting calls for a diaper that’s going to soak up all that’s being poured into it.
The baby diapers we choose also need to be comfortable and durable, not those flimsy ones with tabs that come off in your hand with every other change. Yes, we have had to toss out unused diapers because their tabs come off. Talk about a waste of money.
That’s why, when I need to replenish the diaper bag, I head to my local Walmart, which is one of the stores that carries the new and improved Parent’s Choice diapers. They are now more absorbent, to handle the road trips and adventures we take with Dawson in the back seat.
Not only do they give us that added absorbency we need when out and about, they are cheaper than other brands. In fact, you can save $240 per year just by using Parent’s Choice over national brands — especially when you have nice coupons on top of affordable prices. That’s a lot of #BabyDiapersSavings!
With that money, I can buy my two boys a lot more cute clothes!
What are your diaper bag must haves? If you still have a baby in diapers, what would you do with $240 in savings?!
