You are three years old today! Where has the time gone? I think I’ve asked that in a previous letter or two, but really, time is flying since you were born.
As you continue to grow, you never cease to amaze us. At three years old, you sometimes say things that just sound so beyond your short little life. Like when you told Paw, “Stop, please! I don’t have time for your silly games…” or how you talk extensively with your hands as you discuss something in your own words. It’s too cute, and you are so serious when you do it that we have to maintain our composure rather than laughing.
You seem to like the idea of becoming a big brother, and you hug and kiss the baby (through my belly) every night before bed. You haven’t sat still long enough to feel him kicking yet, but you reference him several times a day – things you are going to teach him, tell him, and show him. You were so proud of the Build-A-Bear animal you made him. You are adorable and I know he will love you!
You’ve been sported a fauxhawk lately, which you refer to as your “Chicken Hair”. You have been completely potty trained for about 5 months now, and we can pull your undies down yourself. Just this week – like three days ago, you started going to the potty all by yourself. No longer do you come and tell me when you need to go…you simply go to the bathroom, do your business, flush, wash your hands, and leave the room with no assistance!!
Currently, you are into Thomas the Tank Engine, Curious George, and Cars (We have a HUGE Mater fan!). You also love old Disney classics like The Fox and The Hound, Pocahontas, Bambi, and Winnie the Pooh. I cannot wait to expose you to more Disney! Your favorite color is green and I’d say your favorite food is a “butter sandwich” (peanut butter sandwich, with or without honey) – though you’ve really started to love popcorn shrimp too.
A great deal of your summer was spent with Nana and Paw this year, since Nana was out of nursing school. You love staying there, but tell us how much you missed us when we see you again. It melts my heart to hear you say that! You’ve also become Daddy’s little co-chef, cooking dinner with him almost every night. Your picky eating seems to be toning down a bit – in the past couple weeks, you’ve eaten spaghetti, tacos, sloppy joes, and lots of broccoli. We hope you are easing back into eating everything you did before you hit the picky stage.
You are so smart, yet so stubborn – I guess you took after Mommy on that one! You know all of colors and can count to about 14 before skipping numbers. You know most of the ABC song, and can point out about 8 letters when asked. You memorize your bedtime books and can fill in the blank when Daddy stops reading. Some of the books, you can just look at the pictures and tell us the story from memory.
When something doesn’t go your way, you are not above screaming, and “NO!” has become a favorite word. I know you are testing boundaries, but you also stomp all over Mommy’s patience sometimes. On the other hand, politeness is becoming routine for you. You like to say “Thank You” and “I’m sorry”. Most of the time you will say “please” when you ask for something. Your first bad word slipped last month, but thankfully, you haven’t said it again.
Playing outside is probably your favorite way to spend the day. You and Daddy go out every evening when he gets home, and stay out riding your Cozy Coupe or tricycle until bath time. You cannot wait to ask Santa for a bike as you’ve been riding Griffin’s (neighbor kid) and love it.
Though it seems like you were two years old forever, I do wish time would slow down a bit. At the same time, I cannot wait to see where being three takes you! Mommy and Daddy love you so much and we hope today is your best birthday yet!!
