In our home, 2015 has become known as the year we tackle our money issues. We are working hard to save, budget, and pay off debts that we have accumulated in 7 years of marriage (and some we each brought to the marriage).
We have a little “Rainy Day” fund, saving for things we want to do with the boys later in the year. For us, that means lots of budgeting for each paycheck so that we can enjoy something down the road. It’s tough, since there seem to be things that one of them need NOW while we’re trying to put away money for the future.
To save for a rainy day, we have been implementing “sinking funds” into our budget. This lets us allocate money in the savings account for certain things later on. For example, we are planning a beach trip in July. Part of the money we save each week is being earmarked specifically for the vacation.
Lately, I have been thinking about all this saving for a rainy day. It doesn’t sound all that positive. Rain comes and can ruin the plans of a perfectly beautiful day, right? So, instead of thinking we are saving for a daunting, bad weather day…why not LIVE FOR A SUNNY DAY?!
Sunny days sound much more exciting and cheerful, and are something we all look forward to. So, for our saving for the beach – our sunny day will be when our 1 year old gets to experience the sand and water for the first time. It will be when our 4 year old gets to splash in the waves, and try his hardest to boogie board!
These sunny days will make you happy to have control of your finances. Money can be a struggle, but it’s best to get it under control so you don’t feel bogged down with having to save for rainy days.
