With the holiday season approaching, many people want to think about cutting back and losing weight. However, with the rush of work, shopping, cleaning the home, and everything else that comes with the busy time of year, weight loss can get pushed to the back burner.
If that happens, most plan to start fresh at the new year. Will 2014 be the year that you reach your health goals and get the body you want? If so, read on for the steps you need to take in order to prepare yourself for weight loss success beginning in January!
Prepare for Weight Loss Success in 2014
1. Don’t worry about your goals until January.
This may seem strange to say, but guilt and stress over what you are eating at the holidays isn’t going to do you any good. So, enjoy the family dinners with loved ones rather than obsessing about what’s on your plate. It’s still recommended that you eat sensibly during the remaining months of 2013, but you don’t need to go hardcore if you are waiting until the new year to begin your weight loss.
2. Ask for health and fitness products as holiday gifts.
This is a great time to ask for the high-dollar weight loss products that you wouldn’t have the money to afford (or wouldn’t buy for yourself) otherwise. Maybe you’d like a Fitbit Flex or a heart rate monitor to track your progress. A blender may be a good investment if you plan to make healthy smoothies. Think about things that will make your journey easier once you start it in 2014 – these are practical gifts that will get tons of use!
3. Clear out your kitchen on December 31.
Spend New Year’s Eve cleaning out the pantry and refrigerator. Get rid of unhealthy snacks, frozen dinners, and anything overly processed. All of the leftovers need to be gone by then too. Make room for your new healthy way of eating. Once it’s ready, fill your kitchen with delicious foods that will help you lose weight and get in shape rather than hindering your efforts.
4. Define your goals and plans before you begin.
Anything worth doing is easier when you have a plan to stick with. Weight loss is no exception. Decide how you want to eat…Will you be cooking low-fat, low-carb, or a mixture of the two? Do you want to eat completely clean or try something like Paleo? Perhaps a healthy eating cookbook would be a great tool to begin with.
Also, consider your activity. Will you join a gym? If so, how often will you visit it and what types of exercise do you plan to do? If you will be working out at home, what methods will you be using? Workout DVDs? Routines that require dumbbells or balance balls? Determining exactly how you want to achieve your weight loss success is essential in order to reach your goals.
