Earlier in March, I was asked to test drive a Mazda CX-9 to get a mom’s perspective on the vehicle. Since I am wanting to upgrade my Honda Civic to an SUV for more room for my family, I excitedly accepted the challenge!
When the 2014 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring arrived at my door, the first thing I thought was I loved the color, Blue Reflex. The black interior also a nice plus, as we know from experience it hides juice and other toddler stains well (my husband’s car also has black interior). The body style is one I really like, as it’s rounded in just the right ways and isn’t too boxy like other vehicles on the market.
The 2014 Mazda CX-9 actually has the make’s oldest body style, and so it should be getting a total revamp soon. Still, I was amazed at all the features inside. My son immediately hopped in and was amazed by the power moonroof. He loves being able to see the sky as we travel. The first thing I noticed was what I consider mom’s best friend: The 5.8-inch color display for the rear camera, navigation, and Sirius XM Radio.
I think the rear camera is the safest feature on this vehicle. We live in a neighborhood full of children, and with two of my own, I’m always scared to back up in my own driveway. Also on the display, the satellite radio provides us with a variety of music and talk radio to listen to on our journeys. The Tom Tom navigation system allows us to easily travel to unfamiliar destinations.
As far as space, the Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring is a very roomy vehicle. There is ample foot room in both the front and back of the SUV. The 7-passenger seating makes it easy to carry all four of us plus a friend or two. With the third row seat down, there is lots of back room for groceries, luggage, the baby’s stroller, and anything else we would need to carry.
I also love the rear air controls for the backseat. I always worry that my kids are too hot or too cold, depending on the season. I mean, the air takes longer to reach them, so they could be uncomfortable while the driver and front passenger is just fine. Rear air solves this dilemma!
The center console of the Mazda was a bit different – definitely nothing I’ve ever seen. The compartment’s lid is made with two pieces. You can open the console without disturbing the passenger’s arm if it’s resting on one side. This would take some getting used to, I believe, but it’s a handy convenience feature!
With all the space and features this SUV offers, I think the 2014 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring is a perfect choice for moms!
Do you like the Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring? What would be your favorite feature?
